Dogfight is a contemporary musical with music & lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul and book by Peter Duchan. This show is based on the Warner Bros. film and screenplay by Bob Comfort. As copied from the Music Theatre International website (mtishows.com), ”Before Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman, there was Dogfight…a sensitive love story about the choices we make that define who we become. It's November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of debauchery, partying, and maybe a little trouble. But, when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress whom he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.”
Please be aware that this musical contains explicit language and adult themes, but these are integral to the story. We follow young men that were drafted for the Vietnam War. Chauvinistic and foul-mouthed Marines paint the picture of young boys who are scared, trying to navigate most-likely dying for their country. If all the explicit language was taken out, the story would not make sense. We have adjusted much of the spoken dialogue in the musical to be less offensive. However, the songs are a much harder thing to change; therefore, we are keeping the language if it is being sung. Our goal is to provide a high-quality production for our school and community.
